Finely cultivated greens are never far away for residents of Tres Santos. One day on the farm, the next on the fairway… here are some of the world-class golf courses—designed by the likes of Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods—within a short drive of Todos Santos.
Carr. Transpeninsular Km 7.5, Fracc. Palmilla
23400 San José del Cabo
+52 624 144 5250
Cabo is widely regarded as one of the world’s premier golfing destinations and Palmilla is a big reason why. One of Jack Nicklaus’ undisputed masterpieces, this legendary design offers 27 holes in total with three 9-hole loops: The Ocean Course, The Mountain Course, and The Arroyo Course. Every hole offers stunning views over the Sea of Cortez, as well as five sets of staggered tee boxes to accommodate every level of golfer. Palmilla is consistently ranked amongst the top 100 courses in the world, as is Nicklaus’ other famous course in the area: Cabo del Sol.
Carretera Transpeninsular San Jose Del Cabo -Cabo San Lucas Km. 10.3
Cabo del Sol, 23410 Cabo San Lucas
Sea, desert, and mountains converge for a truly extraordinary golfing experience at Cabo del Sol. Labeled the “best piece of golf property I’ve ever seen” by founder Jack Nicklaus, this majestic course takes golfers on a picturesque journey along rocky bluffs and dramatic shorelines on the Sea of Cortez. The signature Ocean Course is 7,075 yards long and poses a stiff test for every handicap in the book—culminating with what Nicklaus calls “the three finest finishing holes in all of golf.”
Blvd Diamante s/n, Los Cangrejos
23473 Cabo San Lucas
Currently ranked as the number 38 course in the world by Golf Magazine, Davis Love III’s Dunes Course at Diamante lives up to its billing as the finest course Mexico has to offer. The pristine sand dunes, the spectacular Pacific Ocean vistas, and the beautiful links-inspired design… If you ever get an invitation to play the Dunes, consider it an item off the bucket list.
Not to be outdone, Tiger Woods’ neighboring El Cardinal recently opened in 2014 and is building quite the reputation. Challenging yet rewarding, this expansive course features everything golfers have come to love about Baja terrain: panoramic views over the Pacific, dramatic arroyos, lush vegetation, and sprawling sand dunes.
San Jose Del Cabo-Cabo San Lucas
Official host for two PGA Senior Grand Slam events in 1996 and 1999, Cabo Real is underrated by Cabo’s standards and offers a beautiful layout along the Sea of Cortez. Designed by Robert Trent Jones II, its 7,037-yard design meanders through pristine fairways, desert foothills, native cactus plants, and majestic arroyos. It’s especially difficult on the front nine, rewarded with a friendlier back offering striking views over beach and sea.
Carretera a Pichilingue Km. 7.5 S/N, Lomas de Palmira,
23010 La Paz
For a change of scenery from the golfing hub of Cabo, be sure to check out Mexico’s first Gary Player Signature course in La Paz, the capital of Baja California Sur about an hour’s drive north from Todos Santos. Spread across 7,082 yards of beautiful sea-to-desert landscape, Costa Baja offers a world-class golfing experience known for its drastic elevation changes, sculpted fairways, and spectacular views over the Sea of Cortez. Golfers familiar with the course will know to stay patient through the six opening holes, considering the remaining twelve offer ample opportunities for scoring in the red.
